The Eastern Conference comes down to two teams of destiny. The Cinderella Canadiens disposed of the President Trophy winners and defending Stanley Cup Champions. The historic Flyers vanquished the best goalie ever and became the 3rd NHL team, and 4th team in NBA/NHL/MLB combined, to rally from a 3-0 series deficit to go on to win a series. After all that dust had settled, the NHL slogan of History Will Be Made is true as this is 1st time a 7 and 8 seed have met in the Conference Finals. So let’s break down this improbable matchup Pucking Awesome style.

Continuing the whirlwind tour, we head East for our next preview. The Boston Bruins are the class of the division, but it’s anybody guess after that. Ottawa and Toronto are in rebuilding programs, Montreal finished with its renovation, and Buffalo is standing pat as usual. All four of these teams could potentially make the playoffs, but all four could miss them for various reasons. Feel free to scroll down as I explain my pics for how the Northeast division will play out for 2009-10.

Let the games begin! The opening of the NHL free agency saw many teams move forward towards the 2009 -10 NHL season while some (Detroit and Los Angeles) just sat on the bench with David Spade. The main trend of yesterday’s contract was not in dollar signs but in the years given out. With the national 401K packages going down in flames, it seems like being a 30 year-old hockey player is the best retirement package. Well, let’s break it down Pucking-Awesome style.
